I think you all heard the name SEO, but don't have idea about SEO then I will teach you all about it in this article.
Before proceeding further we need to know what exactly SEO is and why we take attention on this and working model of SEO.
What is SEO
Full form of SEO is Search Engine Optimization
Basically SEO refers to the techniques of the web masters use to increase their traffic from search engines and most of us know that already, but we might not recognize how it will works or why it is so important.
And search engines like google receives an large amount of data in every second and you imagine, if they just show all of the information in the list form. Rather than trying to do every thing manually, search engines use automated programs or algorithm or called spiders or bots to crawl the websites content and then they index only what they think is useful and important enough to show the users based on their search.
Search engines like Google want to help users to find what they are looking for, so that the search engine optimization has evolved from simply adjusting a few settings on your website to making sure it actually answers the user intention and is not a duplicating content.
When a search engine crawls your website, one of its first step is to find, if you are relevant enough in relation from other websites for users searching that topic and if it decides that you are, then crawler will index your website page and which actually means recording information about your website.
The main job as the webmaster or business owner is to ensure that search engines are able to discover and index your webpage content. Otherwise, you are loosing out your website traffic. Search engine optimization is a set of techniques designed to help the websites to achieve that goal.
Why we need to pay attention on SEO
If you are starting any website, then chances are good that search engine optimization was not high on your list of priorities. But, just as your website needs regular maintenance and updates to keep things running smoothly, it also needs proper optimization in order to function at it best and getting started with SEO can save you from falling behind on ranking factors. Here is a look why you should put attention towards SEO.
So many people think of search engine optimization as something that only bloggers and digital markers need to pay attention towards it, and in a way, they are right. However, if you want visitors and especially potential users to be able to search your website on any search engine then you need to optimize your website properly. Otherwise, you will be in a risk of losing out on business and potential leads, because search engines can not find your website when someone searches for relevant keywords or phrases in the search engine searches.
When it comes to search engine optimization, there are a number of distinct factors which you need to be aware of it and the first of these is your website’s indexing status with search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.
Mainly, indexing refers to whether your website has been properly set up or not. so that a search engine can find all it's pages when someone looks them up in a search query. If they can not find anything or at least enough they may not show your website in their results.
How SEO Works
First of all we all need to know how search engine optimization actually works? It is actually a simple process that can be broken down into four steps.
1st step is researching keywords
In any given industry, there are so many words and phrases that people type in to the search engines to find information about their products or services they want and learning what these are can help your website get found in the search results. Let us take search engine optimization users as an example keyword.
After you have done all your keyword research, now it is the time to move on to the second step.
2nd Step is on-Page Optimization
On-page optimization involves writing content that uses those keywords naturally, and in a way that helps search engines to understand what your website is about.
3rd & 4th Steps
The 3rd and 4th step is Search engine optimization are off-page optimization and ongoing maintenance.
This may be more complex than on-page or technical optimization, so we will cover it in another post. For now we just know that off-page optimization involves getting links from the other websites that point to your website.
Types of SEO
The most basic types of Search Engine Optimization includes On-Page optimization, which refers to what you can do to your website from within. This includes everything from optimizing titles and meta descriptions to making sure you are targeting relevant keywords in your content and links.
Off-Page optimization covers everything that happens outside of your website and how others relate to it. This includes things like social media sharing and backlinks etc.
On-Page SEO
The easier it is for a search engine to understand your content better. In other words, if Google can not easily understand what you are trying to say and how you want to rank in search results, there is a good chance you won’t appear.
As a result, you want to pay special attention to your meta title tags, Write short, unique, and descriptive titles. Keep them under 70 to 80 characters, so that they appear properly in search results.
When ever your write article then you must use keywords every time and if you use a keyword in your title tag, it weakens it's effectiveness because it tells google that you care more about ranking than communicating what your content is about.
It is a good idea to consider your image alt tags as part of your on-page SEO strategy. Alt tags are an opportunity to include extra information that search engines can understand and use them, but do not make these keywords stuffed, you can add either three or four.
To complete your on-page optimization strategy, you will need to ensure that your content is properly formatted and paragraphs should be short and to the point and use bullet point or any other points to highlight the paragraphs and if you are working on charts or graphs or any other then it is best to add a caption along with it so that search engines have a better understanding of what they are trying to represent.
connecting out can also help search engines to understand your content more better and however it make sure that these links are relevant and trustworthy and also search engines know not all links are created equal.
Finally, you will need to consider your usage of keywords and put them in URL and Image alt tags, as well as strategically throughout your content. The most important thing to remember here is not to over do it this is not 19th century and now every year search engines are becoming much more smarter.
Off-Page SEO
The off-page elements of Search Engine Optimization are external links that point to your website, and they can come from many different places. The first type of link is your Backlinks or Inbound links, these are links that point to your website from other websites. This kind of SEO is very important because it helps increase your websites relevance in the search results.
The second type of link is Outgoing links, these are external links on your website that point to the other websites. They also help increase your website relevancy, but unlike backlinks, they don not boost your rank in search results. They simply act as a reference point to inform web crawlers what other websites are relevant to your own website.
The final type of link is Internal links, these are used when you include links from one page on your website to another page. This helps web crawlers easily to navigate your website and understand your website structure, but it does not increase relevancy like backlinks or help you rank higher in the search results as outgoing links do. In fact, if you have too many internal links with out enough backlinks or outgoing links, it can actually hurt your webpage rankings.
Technical SEO
The main use of this technical SEO is to make sure your websites code i.e. HTML, CSS, JavaScript or others, which contains all of the pieces that search engines need to index your content and rank it in their search results. This includes things like title tags, meta descriptions, header tags, and internal links all of which provide the important clues to the search engines about what that page contains.
If you are having technical issues with crawling and indexing, try looking in to your website robots.txt file, which should be placed in root directory. As a tool, robots.txt allows you to specify what parts of your website should be crawled and indexed and we can restrict the content to index in search results.
This page should also be set to allow crawling and indexing. If you want search engines to follow links on your website, it will also need to allow them. For example, if you have a website that uses WordPress or any other as a Content management System (CMS) you will have an option to manage the robots.txt file using few plugins like Yoast SEO, RankMath etc.
The main important thing in your technical SEO checklist is to check whether your website has a Sitemap file and XML Sitemap files give search engines a clear view of all the pages on your website, and google recommends using it if you have more than a few hundred pages and XML sitemaps are relatively easy to create and can be generated through tools like Yoast SEO, RankMath WordPress plugins.
If you are using Blogger as a content management system then the XML sitemap will be created automatically and you can submit it in the search console by going to the sitemap and entering the website URL as shown below.
https://abc.com/sitemap.xml
You can also use HTML sitemap in your website which will hep search engines as well as your website users to navigate your website content easily.
And the final thing you will need to check in your technical SEO is whether your pages have been indexed correctly or not. If you find that a page is not showing in the search engine results then it might be because of duplicate content issues.
Conclusion
