About Astronaut


Astronaut is a profession, who flies in an outer space.

"Astro" means star or celestial body and "naut" means a Sailor,

They both together means "Star Sailor" or "Universe Sailor".

Some countries called astronauts with some other names, they are:

  • Some countries like USA, Canada, Europe, Japan they use to call them, as Astronaut, except for the France where the astronauts are called as "Spationauts".
  • In Russia they are called as "Cosmonauts".
  • In China they are called as "Taikonaut".

In olden days Astronaut was thought to be a person, who is observer of some events, which are taking place in the outer space and investigate them.

Currently Astronauts are two types-
  • Pilot Astronauts.
  • Specialists Astronauts.



Eligibility to become Astronaut


Aspirants have to be a citizen of India

Any Male and Female resident of India are eligible to become an Astronaut in India and there is no age limit .

There is no height requirements for an Astronaut.

There is no weight requirements, but need to be in a good shape as per gender and their age.

Good health should be there to become an Astronaut.

When come to Qualification, candidates need to study bachelors degree or Masters Degree.




Skills and Requirements to become an Astronaut


Candidate should have good English speaking efficiency.

Candidate should have a certain number of hours of flying experiences.

Candidate should be strong enough to stay calm during emergency, situations.

Need to have observation skills.

Candidates should be comfortable with multi-tasking.
